Thank you for your interest in the position of Chef & Food Services Coordinator! The Honeymoon Bay Lodge and Retreat Centre is a ministry of Youth For Christ Canada, an organization that ministers to at risk youth across Canada. Honeymoon Bay Lodge & Retreat is dedicated to the training and care of YFC leaders. Our primary mandate is to provide a place for rest, renewal and growth in a restorative setting that is ideal for personal and group retreats. Honeymoon Bay Lodge & Retreat is a Christian, Not-For-Profit, Retreat Centre located on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

The Chef & Food Services Coordinator at Honeymoon Bay will oversee all operational aspects of the food services for the Retreat Centre. Menu planning and communication with group facilitators for retreats and group functions is very important. We would like the person who fills this position to feel called into ministry as we believe that “good food is the Love of God made edible”.
 
Food Safe level 1 training is required. Kitchen and professional food preparation experience is preferred. 

Honeymoon Bay Lodge and Retreat (HBLR) is located in the peaceful town of Honeymoon Bay and owned by Youth for Christ Canada (Youth Unlimited), featuring 17 guest rooms, a library, meeting rooms, full kitchen and dining room, hot tub and multiple shared spaces. The HBLR environment is designed to encourage rest and peace, therefore the culture that our team cultivates is one of relationship first, task second. Staff enjoy daily staff prayer times where all are encouraged to share prayer requests and participate in praying for others on the team, our guests, our families, our communities, and our world. The administration hosts a monthly staff meeting including a luncheon. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee all operational aspects of the food services for the Retreat.
  2. Help to train and supervise all support staff in the kitchen.
  3. Share responsibilities with the director of scheduling the front and back of the house.
  4. Menu planning and communication with group facilitators for retreats and group functions.
  5. Ensure kitchen and dining room are kept clean and work is complete.
  6. Ensure the kitchen after each day of use and thoroughly clean it at least once a month.
  7. Responsible for the ordering and preparation of all food beverage items.
  8. Monthly inventory of all food and beverage items.
  9. Responsible for ordering cleaning items for the kitchen.
  10. Responsible for costing (pricing control points and food cost) of all food and beverage items.
  11. Work with the other managers when extra duties are required and/or assigned from time to time by the Director.
  12. Bring all maintenance and repair notices to the attention of maintenance personnel and the Director.
  13. Attend staff meetings and report to the director any concerns regarding the kitchen duties and responsibilities.
  14. Follow all guidelines stated in the HBR Personnel Policy.
